SHOW 2008

Hello again from GSBA here in NJ.  We had a wonderful turn out at our annual Bird Show.  Our 2008 show was our fourth show since the club was founded and I have to say that everything turned out very well.  This show had over 300 birds that were judged.  We had a large turn out of colorbreds as was expected. Aside from the usual yellow, reds, and whites we had a number of other colors present at our show as you can probably see from our pictures.  Our Type bird division was also well represented.  We had a large selection of high quality Borders, Glosters, and Fifes. We also had many Norwiches and Yorkshires at our show this year.  Many Frills and Belgians were also present.

The judging was handled professionally by our wonderful judges: Francisco Garguillo, Alto Bracco for colorbred.  Tom Caruana judged our Finch, Foreign, Mules and Hybrids division. Carol Caspar handled the Type birds.  We had a very large variety of bird of the highest quality.

Through out the day we had some activities.  We had an area of the show room designated for the sale of birds. We had many breeders offering birds for sale and some vendors who also had merchandise available.  At 12:00 we broke for lunch and had an all you can eat buffet provided by Patio Café and Grill.  For 10.00 you had a choice of barbequed chicken and ribs and a Portuguese dish called Picadinho, along with salad, rice, beans and French fries. Everyone enjoyed themselves and right after lunch we had a raffle for bird merchandise and a 50/50.

This year’s show was by far our most successful.  We had a great turn out with over 300 birds judged.  We had a large amount of birds and accessories for sale.  We had many sponsors for our Show Catalog, which is a tremendous help in generating money to fund our show. One thing that many members mentioned was that we had more people from the club donate their time to help support our show.  A thank you goes out to all the members who helped out at the show and put in hours in the preparation of the show.  Without the members who are dedicated to GSBA our show could not have been possible.  I only hope that the following show will see an even greater turn out of members who are involved in preparing all the behind the scene activities that are needed to run a successful bird show.  It is a tremendous amount of work so the more members that pitch in the less burden and pressure there is for those few who are always counted on to get things done.

A special thank you goes out to Paul Saporito a renowned photographer and artist.  He donated an entire day of his time to take pictures at our bird show. Paul is not a member of GSBA yet he found time in his busy schedule to come to our show and spend the day there taking photos of all the activities and birds so that we could present them to you on our website.  GSBA would also like to thank any vendor, member or non-member who donated money or accessories to the club.  We hope that all that attended the show had a great time.  We here at GSBA will continue to listen to suggestions on how to make our show better.  Hope to see you at our next show GSBA Fifth Annual Bird Show on November 28th 2009.I have included all of the winners at this year’s show.  These are the winners to the best of my knowledge.
