Our 2006 Garden State Bird Association bird show was a huge success! This year’s show was bigger and better than last year’s. We had more birds entered in the show than the previous year. We had approximately 200 birds this year. We had Tom Carauna who judged our type birds and Generosa Lopez who judged our colorbred birds. Both judges are very experienced breeders and did a wonderful job. Our greatest thanks go out to them for supporting us and helping our show be the huge success that it was. Aside from the extraordinary birds that were shown we also had a large turn out of breeders and bird enthusiasts who came to Our Lady of Fatima on November 25th, 2006. We also had birds for sale and many promoters of bird supplies come and help support our show. Everyone I talked to said that the show was of high quality and were very impressed considering that our club is only going on its second year. Judging commenced at approximately 10:00 AM and continued until 1:00 PM where we took a break for lunch. Food was supplied by Patio Café and Grill in Union. The food was spectacular. We had barbequed chicken and ribs with salad and rice, topped off with a Portuguese dish called picadinho, which is pork meat with cubed potatoes and shrimp. Everyone was hungry and enjoyed the food with a nice glass of wine. You could really feel the camaraderie in the room. After lunch we finished judging the birds and finished off with a raffle to help raise money for our club. Some of the bird supplies raffled off were supplied by Abba Bird Supplies in Hillside. We thank them for their support. This year we had two gold medals go out for best colorbreed and best type bird.
